It’s New Year and you wanna set some goals for the year? Here are 10 goal setting ideas (you can call them goals or resolutions) for the new year!
This post is focused on ideas for students (high school, college, university). But you can also apply them if you aren’t a student of course.
So let’s get right into it!
Check out my post about How to Set Goals and Achieve them before reading this post! It will help you know what I am talking about when I mention certain tips.
1. Create a Workout Routine
This goal setting idea is one that I included this year too. I can’t set a goal of going to the gym or doing home workouts because I don’t know where I’ll be moving to soon, but I do wanna create a routine!
It is up to your preference and schedule how you want to set this goal.
You could write down to workout once a week in the gym. Or to take a yoga course. Or to run 3x a week.
2. Join a new Club
Number two of the goal setting ideas is to join a club! Clubs are great for finding friends, to network, and to improve your resume.
New years are about trying new things, so this one fits perfectly. And hey, if you don’t like the club you can still opt-out.
3. Make new Friends/ See your friends
Another resolution idea would be to get more involved and make new friends, or, since you probably haven’t seen your friends in a while due to the pandemic, you can also set as a goal to see your friends again!
It doesn’t have to be a certain number. If you just make one new friend it’s great!
4. Save Money
This can be either buying a specific thing with the money or just a specific amount you want to save up by the end of the year.
For example, you can also have multiple categories for saving money, such as for travel, university, investments, etc.

To track your progress, you will need some kind of tracker.
I created this Goal Tracker and Goal Planner sheet for you to download for free!
5. See a New Place
With the pandemic being hopefully over soon, set a goal to see a new place!
It’s hard to judge ahead when it comes to traveling, but setting a goal for going somewhere new doesn’t pressure you to travel to a completely new country since the new place doesn’t have to be far away.
Traveling is one of my favorite things to do! And it doesn’t have to be expensive. (Check out How to Travel for Free)
6. Start a Side Hustle
If you would like to make more money in the new year (and be able to save more), you should consider starting a side hustle!
There are lots of online job ideas for students out there, you just have to be committed!

7. App Decluttering
Number seven in goal setting ideas it to declutter your social medias and apps on your phone!
Take a few hours to go through your apps and delete any that make you mad or sad when you use them (sometimes it can also help to unfollow those people if you don’t wanna delete the whole app).
After deleting apps you don’t use anymore, go through the people you follow. Do they motivate you? Do you feel inspired when seeing their posts? If not, it is time to unfollow them! And please don’t care about their thoughts on that.
Get rid of everything that doesn’t make you feel good about yourself or isn’t teaching you anything valuable!
8. Reduce Waste / Stop buying plastic / start composting
These are all goal ideas to be more sustainable in the new year!
It is definitely my goal to completely stop buying things out of plastic that won’t last me for a long time.
Also, I want to focus on compensating for my flights (check out this post to learn more), quit buying fast-fashion, or any new clothing from store chains, and reduce my meat consumption.
I know that might be many goals for lots of you if you haven’t started being sustainable yet. But that is okay! Every step helps.

9. Donate For a Good Cause
How much you donate doesn’t matter as much as the action does! Pick an organization you believe in and donate to them at least once.
For example, I have donated to an organization called OneTreePlanted this last year after the rainforest catastrophe happened, or I donated to the Philippine Zero Hour organization after the huge flooding this past year.
It is important that you support the values that YOU have.
If you care more about women’s rights, food waste, or ocean conservancy, then please donate to the organization that represents that. (Or you go help yourself, but more to that later on)
10. Start a Creative Hobby
Starting a new hobby is a great goal for the new year! If you feel like your whole life consists of studying and classes, it’s time for a creative hobby!
That can be art like drawing or painting, or something with animals such as horseback riding or watching dogs when people go on vacation (for money of course).
