Welcome back! Today we are going to talk time management tips for students! As a student myself, I’ve always been trying to find the best ways to be more productive and manage my time better. So here are my best time management tips for students!
Need a study routine? Here is mine!
1. Try social media blockers
Blocking your computer or phone for a set amount of time from social media is one of my favorite ways to be more productive and manage my time better.
Apps called FocusMe, AppBlock, SelfControl, or Flipd allow you to block certain websites or apps for a set amount of time, with no option to turn it off. You have to wait for the timer to expire before having access to the apps again.
Believe it or not, it is super effective and makes you really focus on your work and studies.
2. Use a planner
This one is pretty common, but there are students who still don’t use planners. So if you are one of them; this section is for you!:)
If you are a creative person who can set aside a little time for planning, I recommend trying the bullet journal system.
If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically a custom system where you have a blank planner and create your spreads yourself as you need.
Since you probably clicked on this post because you want to manage your time better because you have too many tasks and not enough time, getting a regular planner might be better for you.
Just make sure to write in every due date, homework, and your to-do lists, to make it effective.
3. Create daily schedules
As I already mentioned in my 10 Girl Boss Organization Hacks post, having a schedule is crucial to staying organized and improving your time management skills.
As soon as you know your class schedule, whether you go to college, high school, or are online/homeschooled, write down your schedule and use the time-blocking strategy to plan out your days and weeks.
the time-blocking strategy
This strategy is basically just a way of planning each day of your week. You make a section for the times of day you are awake and schedule out your classes and tasks in timeframes, including fun things, appointments, and me-time.
Here is an example:
That way you can visualize how your day looks like and how much time you spend on what task.
4. Batch tasks on your schedule
This way of organizing my week has helped me so much with time management.
Being a student with an own business (this blog), I need to plan out what day I am doing which task of my weekly to-do list.
Doing everything every day was not working for me and I ended up wasting a lot of time doing things that didn’t matter.
How I solved it:
I batched similar tasks to one day. So one day is blog post day, another day I focus on creating email sequences and work on everything email-list related.
Applying that to a student schedule, you can work on one class’s assignments on one day instead of pushing it back and always just doing a little bit. Sure, you have to divide big projects into smaller pieces and get one piece done per day, but speaking of smaller tasks, it can be helpful to get similar things done at once.
5. Plan out your study time
Our next point in time management tips for students is to plan out your study time. It isn’t enough to just say “study” in your schedule.
Write down your exact assignment, section it, and tackle each section separately. Depending on how big your assignment is, you can do one section a day.
Color coding your study plan is also a good way to keep different classes organized and separate so you don’t confuse them.
Here is an example of a study plan:
6. Set due dates early
By that, I just mean to set an imaginary due date 1-2 days before the actual deadline, so you have some extra time to review your work on big projects and assignments.
Doing that will help you relax a little on the day before the deadline. You should still mark the actual due date in your planner, but for the study plan, consider setting the end date 2 days earlier.
You can write “turn in..” on the due date, and “complete … by ..” on your “fake” due date.
7. Set goals
One of my favorite time management tips for students is to set goals. I set yearly goals at the beginning of the year and break them down into smaller goals for each month.
And it’s okay if they get outdated! Adjust goals as you go to make them reachable and work for you.
Having goals makes you hold onto things you want to achieve and makes it even better when you get them done.
8. Self-care
Taking care of yourself is super important, especially when school gets a lot. Make sure to set aside some me-time and write it in your schedule so you don’t skip it.
I’ve done that many times whenever I didn’t set time aside for doing something other than school or work, because I think there are so many things to spend my time on that are more productive. But STOP!
YOU are the most important part of your life, and you can’t skip that, even if you think you are super busy and have tons of things to get done.
Sticking to your schedule doesn’t only apply to the school or work part of it, but also the fun things you have scheduled.
Those were my 8 time management tips for students! I hope they give you some inspiration to manage your time better and you find the ones that work for you!

Thanks for the awesome tips! I have never used social media blockers before, but it can definitely be a big distraction. I’ll try it out!
