How to Make Money Blogging in College
Ads
First, you can earn money by placing ads on your site. The more traffic you get, the more money you earn. This is one of the easiest ways to make money, as it’s passive income and it’s easy to set up.
If you’re a beginner blogger, I would recommend signing up to AdSense, which is Google’s ad program. As long as you have some content on your page, an own domain, and the required legal pages (privacy policy, terms, and conditions, etc), you get accepted.
How much you earn with AdSense varies on the time of year and your niche, but you can make around $1-$5 per 1,000 ad views.
There are also other ad networks such as:
- Media.net
- Mediavine (50,000 monthly sessions required)
- Propel Media
- AdThrive (100,000 monthly pageviews required)
- Monumetric (10,000 monthly sessions required) – this is the network I’m with
The higher their traffic requirements, the more money you make with them! Some bloggers earn $30-$50 per 1,000 ad views with Mediavine.
Grear, right? The problem is their required traffic, which beginner bloggers don’t have. That’s okay! Start with AdSense or Media.net and earn some money that way.
Affiliate Marketing
Another way of how to make money blogging in collge is with affiliate links. By promoting other people’s products and services, you can get a small compensation for recommending it, just like I link products in my posts to recommend something! Some are unpaid, some I get compensation for.
Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to monetize your blog because you just talk about things you love and pass them on to your audience while making money.
Of course, it isn’t as easy as just dropping affiliate links into your posts. You will need to figure out strategies on what works best for you.
If you’re ready to learn from someone who does that for a living, I can recommend you to look into the course from Michelle!
Learn here how Michelle went from $0 in affiliate income to over $50,000 per month!
Not ready? That’s okay! Here are my favorite affiliate networks you can join as a beginner blogger. You first sign up to the platform, and then apply to specific brands from there.
To get accepted, you should make sure you have a niche and not just promote everything all over the place! Affiliate programs like bloggers with specific topics, so make sure you have a clear niche when you apply to brands.
Here is the list of affiliate networks:
And here is a list of affiliate programs to apply to within those ad networks or through the direct website:
Of course, the affiliate programs you join will depend on your blog niche, but these are some general ones you can join as a college blogger!
Sponsored posts
Another way to make money as a student with a blog is to do sponsored posts. You either get to try something for free and give a review to it, or you get paid to mention it/write a complete post about it on your blog.
When first getting started, it’s okay to mention products in exchange for the product, but ONLY if you’re getting it COMPLETELY for free. If they make you pay for shipping you’re being scammed!
Once you’ve got a list of a couple of brands you’ve worked with, you can use that to pitch paid posts to brands.
Create an online course
If you’re really good at something, why not sell your knowledge packed in an online course?
Selling your own digital products is THE BEST way how to make money blogging in college! It allows you to scale your income and help people along the way.
Whether that is photography techniques, how you grew your Youtube channel or Instagram account, how to keep your plants alive, or anything else you think people need help with and your blog relates to.
Selling online courses is an amazing way to start building your passive income. After you’ve done the work creating it, all you have to do it marketing and getting it out there.
How to do it: Just like there are online shop builder sites, there are online course builder sites! I bought several online courses, like the Pinterest Course from EllDuclos, or the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course from Michelle. I loved how the courses were set up and how they looked. So professional! I can totally recommend both of the courses by the way!!
Michelle makes over $50,000 per MONTH only from Affiliate Marketing! If I caught your interest, you can check her out here.
And Ell generates insane traffic from Pinterest to her blog. Her course is so simple yet has sooo much information! And it’s totally affordable too. You can check her out here.
These are the platforms that I’ve seen others use for creating online courses. I absolutely love Teachable already and can’t wait to use it for my first online course too!
Write an Ebook
An ebook is another digital product you can sell!
Writing an ebook often isn’t seen as something young people could do, but it’s actually one of the best ways to make money as a student!
I have written an ebook already, but it’s currently only available in German.
Of course, you can write a physical book, but there are more costs and other parties included in that process compared to creating an online book and selling it on your own!
Whatever your skill or message is, you can write about it for money!
How to sell it: After finishing the writing, designing and everything around that, it’s time to market it.
You can list it on Amazon, and/or sell it on your own through your social media, blog or online shop.
To sell a digital product on your own, you need a website because terms and conditions and privacy policy pages are required by law as soon as you earn money with your product or website in general.
Sell printables
Selling printables is one of my favorite ways of making money! Creating them is fun (at least for me), and they are easy to sell, and also cheap for people to buy.
How to do it:
- Start by brainstorming problems your audience might has
- Try to find solutions to them that you can put into a printable
- Create the printable on Canva (it’s free!)
- Sell it on an Etsy shop
- OR create your own online shop of Shopify or your own blog/online store website
- Market it through Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook,.. everywhere!
- Get passive income for as long as the product is live!
