Excited for winter break but scared to get so lazy it’ll be hard to be productive? I got you girl! In this post, I will share my best tips on how to stay productive over winter break as a college student!
Before we get started I wanted to remind you of my winter bucket list!! You can sign up below and get the download link straight to your inbox:)
Make a List
This one seems basic but it’s one of the fundamental steps in how to stay productive over winter break!
Whether you have a planner, a cute to do list printable, or just a piece of paper, making a PHYSICAL list is one of the top tips.
Why I capitalized physical? Because writing something with your hand triggers your brain much more than typing on a computer. You can plan things online too, but writing them down helps you to keep them in mind even better.

Make a Bucket List
While this tip is similar to the first one, it’s different because it related to your entire winter break!
Making a bucket list with fun things you want to do keeps you on track with your goals and is fun to put together!

Get a Planner for the next year!
I love planners and winter break is the perfect time for me to get my next one and start filling it out!
If you don’t like regular planners, I can recommend a bullet journal! I have been bullet journaling for almost 2 years now (damn I didn’t even realize!) and I love it!
In this post, I share the best bullet journal spreads for students, including exam planners, habit trackers, budgeting spreads, as well as block scheduling.
I usually set them up during my winter break so they are ready when the semester starts! My favorites are definitely planning my weekly schedule, writing out goals, and my fitness tracker!
Spend time with your old friends
While this post isn’t a bucket list but tips on how to stay productive during winter break, spending time with your friends can still be productive if you take it as a break from work!
I know many of you have their side hustles and blogs that they can work on during break (I am proud of you!!!), but it’s also important to spend time with your friends and family during the holiday season!
Do Freelance work
If you want to make some extra money during break, you can take on some freelance work through different websites or just start your own side hustle!
I have several blog posts dedicated to making money as a student, so here are a few:

- Websites that Pay $20/hr to Students

- 15 Ideas to Make Money From Home
For example, during breaks, I do some work for my parents’ company and work on my blog and YouTube channel! (You can check that out here if you like)
Learn a new Skill
If you have time in break, why not learn a new skill?
You could start a new language, improve one you started learning in high school, or learn a hard skill such as excel or graphic design!
Skills are great to list on your resume as well as a more productive way to spend your time than just being on your phone.
Skillshare is a great platform to try for new courses and classes! With this link, you can get 14 days for free instead of the regular 7. You’re welcome!:)
Do an Internship
Internships are another great way to stay productive during winter break!
Whether that’s in person or virtually, it’s good to have a reference on your resume, get some experience, and stay busy during the break.
Winter break might not be that long, but even in 2 weeks you can experience some cool things and hopefully have a good contact for a later and longer internship in the future.

Take Time Off
Lastly, it is very important to not just work work work, but to take some time for yourself and relax.
You worked so hard during the fall semester and this is your well-deserved break!
While you should keep being productive and efficient with your time, doing some self care and having some alone time is just as important.
This blog post by OrganoBucks talks about how to practice better self-care in college. Check it out!
