You love the idea of studying abroad but don’t know whether you should do it or not?
Or you might have to convince your parents of letting you go on that adventure and need something to show them?
Well, then this is the right place for you! In this post, I will tell you the top 10 reasons why you should study abroad!
If you rather watch then read: here is my video to it!
1. International friends
This is one of the advantages I absolutely love and couldn’t live without. I wrote a separate post about how to make friends abroad if that is something you’re interested in reading.
Being able to stay at friends’ houses while traveling is only a small part of it, not even mentioning the connections you have and how fun and educational international friends can be.
2. Experiencing a different culture
Getting to know a different culture is super interesting and you learn so much about people.
3. Start over with friendships
Even though this is similar to my first point, it means something different. Being able to completely start over and be yourself is a situation you don’t get to experience very often.
I have wished so many times to just start over with no one judging me or knowing me before I went abroad, it’s countless. Of course, you always pick your own friends, but sometimes it can feel like you are stuck with people and can’t really change anything.
So if you can relate, this is an amazing opportunity for that.
4. Do different things
One of the things I didn’t even realize until I’ve had been abroad for a while is that you are so much more open to trying new things you usually wouldn’t!
For example I never really liked hiking. Even though I lived in the beautiful country of Switzerland, I just didn’t really get to go out and hike. But in the US, I got to love it!
I think the reason for that is our sense of adventure when we are at a new place we know we won’t be forever at. So we want to experience everything we can. At least that’s how I am.
5. Be yourself
Guys, this reason is so so important. I know, people tell you to be yourself at all times. And nothing is truer than that. But tbh you can’t avoid people talking about you or judging you, especially if you have lived in one place your entire life.
We grow as people, and changing yourself in a familiar environment can be hard and hold you back from doing things or expressing yourself the way YOU want to. Feel me?
So going to a different country can help soo much. People there don’t know you. You can be yourself. Make them love you the way you are.
6. Different school system
Experiencing a different school system when studying abroad sounds pretty obvious. But it’s still important to mention.
Whether you go abroad for high school or college, school can be much more fun when you get to experience it from a different view. And hey, even if you don’t like it more than the system at home, you will learn to appreciate your own school and country!
7. Learn a new language
Learning or perfecting another language is justly the most common reason for studying abroad. You learn it so much faster than in school!
My English had an American accent and improved from a level B1 to a good B2 if not C1 way before I left the country! (I’m guessing after like 8 months. But it improves from the minute you get there! haha)
8. Get more independent
Learning to take care of yourself and grow means so much for you and your future! Also, international people seem way more mature than students who never go abroad.
Being in another country “by yourself” makes you feel much more independent and free (even if you’re not, cause your organization, coordinators, counselors, parents, etc still have an eye on you and you do have to follow rules to stay abroad) meaning your mindset and being away from familiar things.
9. Career booster
Whether you go abroad for short or long-term studies, study abroad always looks good on your CV, no matter what job you choose. And not just for CVs, but also in personal conversations.
I automatically connect well with people who tell me they’ve been abroad too! It sounds and looks good no matter what application or conversation you mention it in.
10. FOOD!!!
Last but not least: The food!!! OMG guys. I absolutely LOVE trying new foods. Living in the US, I tried every possible dish, candy, drink, or snack I could find.
Ofc I didn’t like it all. But I did love so much I didn’t try before. So if you’re someone who loves to eat, then this is the dot over the i on your “pro” list.
I have also done a Youtube Video about this blog post! Feel free to check it out since it might me a little more personal since you can SEE ME! (let me know here in the comments if you have seen it!)
